SAN JACINTO, CA — Authorities made 50 arrests on Wednesday during a multi-agency compliance sweep aimed at probationers and parolees in the San Jacinto area.
The operation, which was conducted at multiple locations throughout the San Jacinto Valley and Hemet, involved more than 60 law enforcement officers, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said several of the arrests on Wednesday included felons in possession of illegal weapons.
During the operation, authorities seized numerous narcotics, including methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl. A stolen car was also recovered, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Authorities said many of the controlled substance and possession-related cases were charged as felonies after Proposition 36 passed. The drug-related felonies include mandatory appearances and are accompanied by court-ordered treatment for substance abuse.
Wednesday's sweep included parole and probation checks, traffic stops, and other enforcement actions. The California Highway Patrol, Hemet Police Department, and California Department of Corrections & Rehabilitation personnel also assisted with the operation.
