BIG BEAR LAKE, CA — Two women were killed and a third was critically injured when their vehicle was struck by an intoxicated driver while volunteering for Meals on Wheels in Big Bear Lake, according to reports.

The incident occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday, police said. Matthew Clark, 52, of Oxnard, was driving a Ford Super Duty pickup south on Cienega Road when he blew a stop sign at Big Bear Boulevard, striking the passenger side of a westbound Subaru Crosstrek that was carrying the three women, according to police.

One of the women died at the scene, while the other two were airlifted, with one later dying and the other, the driver, suffering major injuries, police said.

Clark suffered minor injuries and was taken to receive medical care before he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, booked into West Valley Detention Center and held on $250,000 bail, according to police.

The three victims included a mother and daughter and a family friend, according to KTLA. The mother and daughter were training the friend to do a Meals on Wheels route at the time of the crash, the outlet reported.

The son of the woman riding in the backseat told KTLA that his family was “devastated” and “without words.”
