In addition to the lights, musical acts are scheduled to perform.

RIVERSIDE, CA — Remote-controlled drones will buzz around the skies for the enjoyment of onlookers at La Sierra and Fairmount parks during pre-Fourth of July celebrations in Riverside, officials announced Tuesday.

"Community members and families are invited to enjoy evenings filled with live music, food, fun a beer garden ... and an exciting aerial light show, celebrating community pride, local culture and the city's participation in America's 250th anniversary celebration," Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Services spokesman Jovan Fontenot said.

The first event is set for 6 p.m. on June 17 in La Sierra Park at 5215 La Sierra Ave., paired with the city's annual Summer Concert Series, featuring live bands performing a variety of music in the park.

After the bands play, multiple drones that can be launched by hand will be flown over the park, flashing patriotic colors and performing various maneuvers while attendees watch from a safe distance, according to the city.

Another drone show is slated for 6 p.m. on July 1 in Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd. That show, too, will follow musical acts.

"Guests will experience a dazzling drone light performance illuminating the night sky as part of the city's continued summer celebration and America at 250 commemorative activities," Fontenot said.

There will be several fireworks extravaganzas in the city during the Fourth of July weekend, the biggest being the Mt. Rubidoux aerial fireworks spectacular on the night of Saturday, July 4.

Further details on that event will be published by the city in the next two weeks.
