NUEVO, CA — A brush fire that started Thursday on the east end of Nuevo charred almost five acres before it was stopped.

The agency stated that multiple engine and hand crews were sent to the lightly populated area and encountered flames moving at a moderate rate through medium vegetation.

Two Cal Fire air tankers and a water-dropping helicopter were summoned and initiated runs on the brusher a short time later, significantly slowing its advance, according to reports from the scene.

No road closures were required.

By 1:55 p.m., the fire's forward rate of spread had been stopped.

Full containment was expected before 4 p.m.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
