INLAND EMPIRE, CA — A carjacking suspect who led police on a wild chase that started in the Inland Empire and continued into Los Angeles was taken into custody Friday after a police K-9 bit his arm Friday afternoon.

The truck's owner told the TV station he and the suspect wrestled in the cab of the pickup until the alleged carjacker accelerated the vehicle, throwing the owner of the pickup to the ground.

Fontana police, and later California Highway Patrol officers, chased the suspect west on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway, then the Hollywood (101) Freeway and then though streets of downtown Los Angeles, Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.

The chase continued more than an hour after it began, with the suspect driving erratically and stopping at times and waving his arms out the vehicle's window before driving off again.

The vehicle traveled south into Los Angeles County and stopped multiple times during the chase. Officers attempted a PIT maneuver, but the driver evaded police and headed to the 710 Freeway where the vehicle began to slow down as multiple patrol cars followed him.

As of 1:45 p.m., the suspect was driving erratically on the wrong side of the road along Olympic Boulevard in downtown Los Angeles.

Around 2:30 p.m., police boxed the suspect's vehicle in when it arrived near Wright Road and Fertile Street in Lynwood.

The suspect exited the vehicle and appeared to be moving away from police when a K-9 lunged at the man and bit him on the arm.

Multiple officers took the suspect into custody.

No additional information was immediately available.
