BANNING, CA — Firefighters rushed to extinguish an active blaze at a Banning home Monday afternoon. The thick column of black smoke could be seen from miles away as firefighters worked the scene.

Just before 2:30 p.m., the fire broke out on the side of a Banning home, located in the 300 block of Park Avenue, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Maggie Cline De La Rosa.

Multiple witnesses reported the housefire, she said. As of 3:15 p.m., the single-story, single-family home was still actively burning, she said. Firefighters requested breathing apparatus support and were expected to remain at the scene for an extended period.

Banning City Electric, Southern California Gas, and the Southern California Red Cross have all been requested to the scene. It was not immediately known if any people or pets were injured in the firefight.
