Banning Officials Considering Locations Of Future EV Charging Stations

BANNING, CA — The City of Banning is taking another step to modernize its transportation resources with the proposal of new city-owned electric charging stations that would include public access.

The city submitted an open call on Monday asking for feedback from residents which locations in the city they would prefer to see the new EV charging stations.

Some of the potential locations include:

• Repplier Park at 749 North San Gorgonio Avenue
• City Parking Lot at 128 North San Gorgonio Avenue
• Banning Police Department at 125 East Ramsey Street
• The Community Services Center at 789 North San Gorgonio Avenue

The proposed EV charging stations are a part of the city's Zero-Emission Vehicle Fleet and Infrastructure Transition Action Plan, which officials say will help the transition of the city's fleet to zero-emission vehicles.

For the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year, the City of Banning requested $309,850 from Caltrans to develop the Zero-Emission Vehicle Fleet and Infrastructure Transition Action Plan to support the "electrification of its municipal fleet, including Banning Connect, the city-run transit bus system."

Stakeholders in the project include Banning Electric Utility, Banning Unified School District, Southern California Public Power Authority , Western Riverside Council of Governments, Southern California Association of Governments, and Caltrans.

The anonymous survey asks several questions, including potential locations for public chargers, charging preferences, and any possible barriers to adoption.

The survey, which takes about 10 minutes to complete, also allows residents to leave their feedback and comments.

City officials have not announced when the proposed EV charging stations would go into development.
