Just after 4:45 a.m., on the eastbound Moreno Valley Freeway west of Main Street, the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene where a Corvette collided with both a semi-truck and a Toyota Tacoma, overturning and going down an embankment, Officer Javier Navarro said. The speed of the Corvette was thought to be a factor in the collision, he added, and confirmed the driver of the Corvette was the person who perished at the scene.

During the incident, the Tacoma was also flipped onto its roof and blocked the fast lane. The big rig was blocking the HOV lane.

Tow trucks were being called to clear the crash scene, and officers would remain in the area for several hours.

The Riverside County coroner's office was summoned to the scene at 5:11 a.m., the CHP said.

The CHP closed all eastbound lanes in the area. Drivers should seek alternate routes until further notice.
