52-Year-Old Woman Arrested Following Crash That Killed Child On Ramona Expressway

PERRIS, CA — A San Jacinto woman was arrested Monday in connection with a two-vehicle crash over the weekend that killed an 8-year-old girl and injured five others, authorities said.

Silvia Corona, 52, was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning shortly after 6 p.m. on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing injury.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:36 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Ramona Expressway and Rider Street, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrived to find six people injured, including five occupants in one vehicle. Two of the passengers suffered life-threatening injuries and were rushed to local hospitals.

One of those passengers, identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau as 8-year-old Camila Leon of Perris, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second juvenile passenger remained hospitalized Tuesday in critical condition.

Corona, who was the driver and sole occupant of the second vehicle, also suffered injuries in the collision. She is due in court Wednesday, according to jail records.

The Perris Sheriff's Station Traffic Reconstruction Team identified Corona as the suspect following an ongoing investigation.
