VICTORVILLE, CA — Two lifelong friends died Friday after a catastrophic crash claimed their lives in Victorville. Maddalyn Dailey, 17, and Isabelle Hill both died in the collision.
Witnesses say the cause of the crash was an illegal street racing incident that occurred on Ridgecrest Road, less than a minute from Dailey's home. The girls, both seniors at Sultana High School, were not part of the alleged street racing.
"Maddalyn had so much life ahead of her," her family wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser established for funeral and memorial expenses. "Our family is heartbroken to share that she was taken from us far too soon."
Isabelle's mother wrote a heartfelt message on a fundraiser established in her memory.
"Isabelle had her entire life ahead of her," the fundraiser stated. "She was beautiful inside and out, sweet, funny, silly, smart, strong in her faith and deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. No mother should ever have to bury her child."
The crash was "horrific and preventable, caused by illegal street racing," the fundraiser notes.
Sultana High School senior activities over the weekend, including the Senior Sunrise, were postponed.
The crash occurred just after 8:30 p.m. Friday, near the intersection of Ridgecrest Road and Elmwood Drive, Officer Jebediah Wheeler of the California Highway Patrol Victorville station told Patch.
A yellow Chevrolet Camaro convertible and a black Dodge Charger were both speeding north on Ridgecrest Road, as the car driven by Maddalyn turned from Elmwood Drive, according to the CHP report.
Both the Camaro and Dodge struck Maddalyn's Acura, splitting the Acura in half. The driver of the Dodge, whose name was not released, was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter. The driver has since posted bond.
The Camaro driver fled the scene, according to Wheeler. "A child left at the crash site was reunited with a parent," he said. That driver is currently being sought by authorities.
Neither driver's name was immediately released.
