5 Motorists Arrested, 16 Cited During Banning DUI Operation

Police said additional DUI checkpoints are planned throughout the remainder of 2026, with dates and locations to be announced.

BANNING, CA — Police arrested five people and issued 16 citations during a weekend DUI checkpoint in Banning, law enforcement officials reported.

The Banning Police Department operation took place from 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, in the 1200 block of West Ramsey Street.

Officers contacted drivers in 828 vehicles during the operation. Thirteen drivers were cited for operating a vehicle without a valid license or with a suspended or revoked license.

Additionally, three drivers were arrested for driving with a license suspended due to a prior DUI conviction, and one person was arrested on suspicion of resisting or delaying a peace officer.

According to the Banning Police Department, checkpoint locations are selected based on historical data regarding collision reports involving impaired drivers. The primary goal of the operations is to improve public safety by removing impaired drivers from the road.

Department officials said additional DUI checkpoints are planned throughout the remainder of 2026, with dates and locations to be announced.
