Girl Scouts Bridge to the Next Level at Golden Era Golf Course

Led by troop leader Mitzi Carver, the girls regularly collect and recycle materials from several locations, including Golden Era Golf Course in San Jacinto. For the girls, recycling is more than simply collecting discarded materials. It is a way to reduce waste, reuse resources and make a lasting difference in their community.

"This is a way we can help," Carver said. "We are dedicated to saving the planet. By recycling, we eliminate waste and then it is reused. Making an impact in the community is one thing we as Girl Scouts are about because this is making a sustainable impact."

The troop recently celebrated another important step in the girls' Girl Scout experience with a Bridging Ceremony held at the Golden Era Golf Course Clubhouse.

Bridging is a special Girl Scout tradition that marks a girl's advancement from one Girl Scout level to the next. During the ceremony, the girls physically cross a bridge to symbolize moving forward into a new level of Girl Scouting. They also receive the uniform and recognition associated with their new level.

At the Golden Era ceremony, girls proudly crossed the bridge and received certificates recognizing their advancement. The ceremony celebrated not only what they had accomplished, but also the new challenges and opportunities ahead.

Girl Scouts can begin their journey as early as kindergarten and continue through 12th grade. At each level, girls develop leadership skills through activities that include earning badges, exploring science and the outdoors, traveling, selling cookies and participating in community service projects.

The organization also recognizes girls who make an especially significant impact through its highest awards—the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. These awards challenge Girl Scouts to identify issues they care about, take action and create sustainable change in their communities.

Troop 2502 is already putting that philosophy into action.

One of the troop members recently completed a Girl Scout Journey award with a project focused on recycling. As part of the project, she created a book and poster explaining what she had learned and how recycling can make a difference. Both were displayed for family members and guests to see during the Bridging Ceremony.

For the girls of Troop 2502, crossing the bridge was more than a ceremony. It represented another step in growing as leaders, serving their community and continuing the Girl Scout tradition of making the world a better place.
