FONTANA, CA —We have the libraries to thank for 40 Inland Empire residents who earned accredited high school diplomas and career certificates through the San Bernardino County library's Career Online High School program this year, officials announced.
A ceremony was recently held on Aug. 13 at the Fontana Lewis Library and Technology Center, with balloons and fanfare for seven of the graduates, according to a county spokesperson. Each crossed the stage before family members, friends and library staff.
The ceremony included remarks from Valarie Hardie, who celebrated the graduates' achievements and the determination, resilience and hard work that helped them reach the milestone.
"Every graduate we celebrate represents a story of perseverance, determination and possibility," County Librarian Melanie Orosco said. "These graduates made the decision to invest in themselves and their futures, and we are incredibly proud to have played a part in helping them reach this milestone."
Offered in partnership with the California State Library, Career Online High School provides eligible adults who did not complete high school with an opportunity to earn an accredited diploma online at no cost while gaining career-focused skills.
Students complete coursework on a flexible schedule and receive academic support and success coaching throughout the program.
Nearly 260 San Bernardino County residents have earned high school diplomas through the program since its inception, according to the county library.
The San Bernardino County Library said the program is part of its effort to remove educational barriers and connect residents with resources supporting lifelong learning, workforce readiness and personal growth.
Adults interested in earning a diploma through Career Online High School can learn more at any of the county library's 32 branches or begin the enrollment process at library.sbcounty.gov/adults.
