Monsoonal Weather Prompts Emergency Project On Highway 243 Near Banning: Caltrans

BANNING, CA — Caltrans crews are working on a $2.3 million emergency project on State Route 243 near Banning after monsoonal weather triggered a roadway washout, the agency said.

Caltrans said one-way traffic control with flagging will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week until the project is completed, weather permitted.

The round-the-clock schedule allows construction crews to work safely and operate heavy equipment necessary for the installation of a new drainage system, as well as perform asphalt and pothole repairs. The project will also stabilize and repair embankments, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans said one-way flagging will be performed in both directions of Highway 243 and may cause delays during peak commuting hours.

Motorists were advised to reduce their speed when traveling near work areas for the safety of crews and other drivers on the route. Signage will be placed ahead of the work zone to indicate roadway work is ahead.
