Foul Play Suspected After Man's Body Found Along Highway 243 Near Beaumont

BEAUMONT, CA — The California Highway Patrol was investigating the suspicious death of a man found along state Route 243 near Beaumont Sunday.

The man was found about 11:40 a.m. Saturday lying on the shoulder of SR-243 north of Smith Creek Bridge, according to the CHP.

Authorities initially believed the man's injuries might have resulted from a traffic collision. He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center, where he died despite lifesaving efforts, according to the CHP.

Investigators found no evidence indicating that a vehicle was involved, and medical personnel later found that the man's injuries did not appear consistent with a traffic collision but appeared to have been caused by a sharp-edged weapon, according to the CHP.

The circumstances surrounding the man's death remained under investigation.
