LAKE ARROWHEAD, CA — Two 16-year-old high school students face criminal citations after allegedly making false 911 calls from school landlines last week, triggering a massive emergency response and lockdown in Lake Arrowhead, authorities said.

Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Twin Peaks Station responded around 1:53 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, to Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead following multiple emergency calls from the campus, according to the sheriff's department. During one call, dispatchers heard a voice asking for help.

The calls prompted a large response from law enforcement and fire personnel. Responding deputies activated emergency protocols, placed the campus on lockdown, and began a systematic search of the site.

During the search, deputies gathered information that led them to two students suspected of placing the false calls from school landlines. The teenagers were located and escorted to the school's administration office. The lockdown was lifted once deputies confirmed the campus was safe.

Following an investigation, one student was cited on suspicion of making a false report of an emergency and conspiracy. The second student was cited on suspicion of conspiracy. Because of their ages, the names of the juveniles were withheld by authorities. Both were released into the custody of their legal guardians.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Twin Peaks Sheriff's Station at 909-336-0600. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling or texting "REPORT" to We-Tip at 844-909-3006 or online at mobile.catapultems.com/sbcsd/Sites.
