GRAND TERRACE, CA — A 22-year-old Colombian national allegedly linked to a South American theft ring was arrested last week in connection with a series of summer residential burglaries in San Bernardino County, including in Yucaipa, authorities announced.
Edgar Andres Barrera Parra was taken into custody Oct. 15 following the execution of a search warrant in Los Angeles County, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Investigators recovered evidence associated with a July 2 burglary in the 22000 block of Main Street in Grand Terrace, as well as additional property believed to be stolen.
Detectives with the Central Station Detective Bureau used surveillance footage and automated license plate reader technology to identify Barrera Parra as a suspect in the Grand Terrace break-in, as well as two earlier burglaries in Yucaipa.
Coordinating with law enforcement agencies across Southern California, investigators determined the suspect was associated with a South American theft group — an organized criminal network known for using sophisticated tools and techniques to commit residential burglaries throughout the region, officials said.
Barrera Parra was booked into the Central Detention Center on suspicion of residential burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Authorities urge anyone with information about the investigation to contact Detective Magdaleno or Deputy Ramos at the Central Station. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling or texting "REPORT" to We-Tip at 844-909-3006 or visiting mobile.catapultems.com/sbcsd/Sites.
