HEMET, CA — Authorities Tuesday were searching for the motorist who ran over and killed a 44-year-old pedestrian in Hemet on Halloween, fleeing the scene before first responders arrived.
Donna Risner of Hemet was fatally struck at 11:55 p.m. Saturday on West Menlo Avenue, just west of State Street, according to the Hemet Police Department.
The agency said Risner "entered the roadway" and was hit by an eastbound driver, who sped away from the location.
Hemet Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene 10 minutes later.
There are marked crosswalks at the intersection of Menlo and State, but Risner apparently was not near one when she walked into traffic lanes.
A description of the vehicle was unavailable Tuesday.
Anyone with information relevant to the investigation was asked to contact the police department at 951-765-2400.
