Banning, Beaumont Temps Hit Record Highs Amid Heat Wave

BANNING, CA — Potentially record-setting heat is sticking around in parts of Riverside County Friday. Over the weekend, temperatures were expected to soar well into the triple-digits in Banning and the Coachella Valley.
An excessive heat warning will be in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, where temperatures could range from 114 to 120 degrees. High temperatures would also scorch the desert communities across the Coachella Valley.
At least one flight was canceled from leaving the Palm Springs International Airport Thursday due to temperatures that topped 118 degrees, SkyWest reported.

Friday temperatures at the airport in Palm Springs were predicted to reach 120 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
Riverside County Mountains and valleys will also be under an excessive heat warning until 8 p.m. Saturday, with temperatures potentially reaching 105 degrees at elevations below 5,000 feet in the mountains and reaching up to 108 in the valleys.

"Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities," NWS forecasters warned. "Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water."
Forecasters said the heated conditions will likely linger through next week.
"Hot weather will continue in the valleys, mountains and deserts through the weekend," according to the NWS. "A brief surge of monsoonal moisture Sunday and Monday will bring mid-level clouds and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms to the mountains and high deserts."
