Banning High Football Coach McRitchie Named School's New Athletic Director

Head coach Scott McRitchie takes on dual role in advance of varsity football season.

Second-year Banning High football coach Scott McRitchie would like to improve his team’s win-loss record.

But as the school's newly-appointed athletic director, McRitchie would also like to add some stability to Banning High’s athletic department.

McRitchie, named the new A.D. earlier this month, replaces Anna Torres. Torres remains at the school as a math teacher and volleyball
coach.

There are three other members of the school who have served as Athletic Director and McRitchie is the eleventh football coach the school has had in 15 years.

“Stability in an athletic department is huge,” McRitchie said. “In the high school level, as it is in college and beyond, things don’t start to click until after you’ve been in there for a while.”

McRitchie is proud of Banning high's newly-constructed athletic facility.

“It’s a good time in our existence,” McRitchie said. “We are able to get things started with a new facility. The quicker we get things on track the better we will be off in the long haul.”

McRitchie has his hands full. Football workouts are in full swing and he is overlooking five fall sports, each with their own needs and expectations.

“It makes it busy,” McRitchie said of his dual role as head football coach and athletic director.

McRitchie came to Banning from Moreno Valley, where he coached at West Valley High School.

“It’s a one high school town, which was appealing to me,” McRitchie said. “I knew what the perception of Banning was from the outside. I
had to learn what the perception was from the inside.”
