Banning Parking Lot Crash: Coroner IDs Man, BPD Releases Details

New information has been released in the deadly crash.

BANNING, CA — A man who died last week in a crash involving a minivan and a semi truck in a Banning parking lot has been publicly identified. Meanwhile, police released some new details in the deadly incident.

John Colton, 68, of Banning died at the scene of the April 5 crash in the 300 block of Highland Springs Avenue, according to the county coroner's office.

Colton was the sole occupant of the minivan and appears to have been driving in the Sun Lakes Shopping Center when he suffered a medical emergency, Banning police told Patch. He then "collided into the trailer of a semi that was parked on the north end of the parking lot."

No one was in the truck during the 5:16 p.m. crash, according to fire and police reports.

"The male subject suffered fatal injuries from the collision," police said.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Banning Police Department.
