Southwest Riverside County remains under a heat advisory Monday. Hot weather is expected this week, though a cooling trend is coming.
BANNING, CA — Banning started the week with a slight chance of thundershowers and high temperatures near 99 degrees the National Weather Service said.
Much of the Inland Empire was under a heat advisory that began Sunday until at least 8 p.m. Monday, covering most of western Riverside County and the lower half of San Bernardino County.

High pressure has stalled over Nevada and is influencing regional weather patterns, ushering in brittle, dry, hot conditions, meteorologists said.
"As the high-pressure centers over the Great Basin, this opens the door for easterly monsoonal flow to enter Southern California," the NWS said. "Slight chances of thunderstorms (are) in the forecast for the mountains and deserts on Monday afternoon and evening."
