Beaumont Has Big Day at Swim Finals

Walker won two titles as Boys' team took second Friday in Long Beach.

Beaumont High’s swim program took another huge leap in the right direction on Friday.

The Cougars took part in the CIF-Southern Section Div. 4 finals and came away with a second place finish for the boy’s team and a 12th place finish for the girl’s team.

The Cougars were competing in a field of 80 teams at the Belmont Plaza in Long Beach. Beaumont scored 169 points in the final team standings in the boy’s event, with Calabasas Viewpoint taking top honors with 299 points.

“The BHS swim team had an amazing time at CIF,” Beaumont coach Adonnia Bradbury said.

Better yet, Beaumont produced its first ever CIF champion in the sport. Junior Bilal Walker won two titles by sweeping the freestyles, 50 and 100.

Beaumont also had two relay teams take runner-up honors. Landon Carr, Homero Aguilar, Brody Wood and Walker took second in the 200 freestyle relay and the team of Garrett Houston, Card, Wood and Walker took second in the 400 freestyle relay.

Other notable efforts were turned in by Deana Mendoza (4th in the 100 backstroke and 8th in the 100 freestyle), Wood (6th in the 200 freestyle and 7th in the 100 freestyle), Timothy Aaron (8th in the 100 butterfly, 12th in the 200 individual medley), Aguilar (8th in the 100 backstroke), Carr (9th in the 50 freestyle) and Summer Gerken (12th in the 100 butterfly).

A 7th place finish was turned in by the girl’s medley relay team of Kelsey Lara, Briahna Hendey, Mendoza and Gerken. The 400 freestyle relay team of Miranda Chavez, Mendoza, Hendey and Gerken finished 12th.

“We are very proud of their accomplishments,” Bradbury said. “They have worked hard all season to have done very well at CIF.”

Beaumont’s boy’s team continues the season with a trip to Irvine on Tuesday for the Masters meet.
