It really was like any other day at the ball park for Beaumont High’s softball team.
Still, Wednesday’s 10-0 over rival San Jacinto meant more than most.
With the win the Cougars secured at least a share of the Mountain Pass League title. It could become their title outright with a sweep of their three games next week.

“It took some disappointment but we just had to come back,” Beaumont first baseman Kristin Neal. “We worked hard in practiced and never gave up. The team stuck together and there was a lot of teamwork.”
It was the third straight win for Beaumont since its loss to Hemet.

“People were counting on us to fail,” right fielder Laura Hernandez said. “We bounced back and have been working hard in practice.”
The win was sweeter than usual because it arrived on a rival’s home field.
“It’s a pretty big deal,” Hernandez said. “Especially winning at San Jac…our biggest rival.”
Beaumont pitcher Alyssa Fuimaono tossed a 3-hitter and had three strikeouts.
“Today I threw a lot of curveballs; the umpire was really tight on the inside so I had to work the outside,” Fuimaono said. “I threw a lot of change ups.”
Beaumont was in control of the game from start to finish. The Cougars took a 3-0 in the first inning, made it 6-0 in the second and 7-0 in the third. The Cougars made it 10-0 in the fifth.
Along the way the Cougars racked up 13 hits in the five inning contest, getting multiple hit games from Stephanie Tickemyer (2 for 4), Jayme Tickemyer (2 for 4), Kristen Neal (2 for 3), Bernadette Moreno (2 for 3) and Arianna Espinoza (2 for 3).
