Beaumont swim coaches Jason and Adonnia Bradbury wanted tough competition for their swimmers.
The ‘tough love’ would pay off late in the season when the Cougars competed against the best swimmers in CIF competition.
That strategy will be put to the test this week. The Cougars, MPL defending champs in boys and girls swimming, swam at Palm Desert Tuesday, at Yucaipa on Thursday and then at the Elsinore Invitational on Saturday.

Palm Desert of the Desert Valley League is a perennial power. Yuciapa has club swimmers and the invitational usually features a tough field.
Beaumont tuned up for the tough week with a boys-girls sweep of Perris. In that meet a handful of swimmers turned in CIF qualifying times. That group included Bilal Walker in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, Brody Wood in the 200 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, Landon Carr in the 50 freestyle and Timothy Aaron in the 100 butterfly. Walker and Wood also had a qualifying time in the 400 freestyle relay with teammates Garrett Houston and Homero Aguilar.
