BEAUMONT, CA — The Beaumont Unified School District hosted its annual spelling bee on Friday, and 27 students competed for a chance to move on to county competition.

All students were outstanding, but three stood out: Eden Vasquez from Sundance Elementary School took the top spot by correctly spelling "fallacy." Allie Bacon from Mountain View Middle School claimed second place, and Matthew Sontoski from Three Rings Ranch Elementary School took third.

"The spelling bee helps students improve their spelling skills, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and develop the correct usage of words," the district said in a released statement. "A popular annual event, the spelling bee also brings the school community together to support students in the competition."
