Beaumont USD Superintendent Placed On Paid Administrative Leave

The BUSD board made the decision Tuesday.

BEAUMONT, CA — Terrence Davis, superintendent of the Beaumont Unified School District, has been placed on paid administrative leave, but details from the district about why the move was taken have not been publicly released.

"On August 11, 2020, the Beaumont Unified School District Board of Trustees took action to place Superintendent Terrence Davis on paid administrative leave. Due to employee confidentiality laws, the District cannot further comment on this matter," a district statement read.

The BUSD board appointed Dr. Ebon Brown, chief innovation officer, and Dr. Amy Nguyen-Hernandez, assistant superintendent of instructional support services, to serve as acting co-superintendents pending the selection of an interim superintendent, the district said.

There was no word on how long the selection process would last nor how long Davis would continue receiving pay. Pages on the BUSD website that referenced Davis have been taken down.

"We understand the concern from our staff, students, families, and community members regarding this change," the district statement read. "Please be aware that comments and allegations posted on social media outlets are not necessarily factual nor accurate."

Davis took over as BUSD superintendent July 9, 2016 following the retirement of BUSD Superintendent Maureen Latham. Davis was unanimously appointed by the BUSD board. He had been serving as the district's assistant superintendent of human resources prior to the appointment.

Davis joined the BUSD in 2012. Prior, he served as director of human resources for the Temecula Valley School District and was also director of special education there. He also taught in the Alvord Unified School District.
