Beaumont-Wide Yard Sale Underway This Weekend

BEAUMONT, CA — The Beaumont Chamber of Commerce has planned a city-wide yard sale slated to run Friday through Sunday, May 21.

Maps for the homes participating in the sale would be available throughout the weekend and could be picked up in front of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce main office, located at 726 Beaumont Avenue.

The event was rain or shine, and is all part of the chamber's motto to "build a better community, one business at a time."

Yard sales allow residents to dip their toes into entrepreneurship. Each participating family can haul out their gently used items from furniture to housewares, from toys and outgrown kids' clothes to adult clothing and shoes, and from CDs and old electronics to odds and ends, bric-a-brac and tchotchkes.

A reminder to sellers:

• Do start your yard sale day with change to spare.
• Don't ever leave your cashbox unattended.
• Do organize your sale items. Set up a "storefront" that will engage shoppers.
• Don't take checks.
• Do consider setting up a Venmo or Zelle account for larger items.
• Don't be afraid to haggle with someone if they think you're asking too much for Grandma's favorite sweater.
• Do be prepared to make deals! If you don't, prepare to haul everything that didn't sell back inside, or send it out for donation.

The Beaumont cross-city yard sale allows thrifty types to head to multiple homes and pick up treasures to call their own. It draws a larger-than-normal crowd of shoppers, all in the name of helping residents clear their clutter and earn a little cash in the process.

Participating residents paid $20 for a permit to hold their weekend-long sale, sponsored by the chamber.

Maps to the participating homes will be available outside of the chamber offices all weekend long, they said.
