Beaumont Woman Attacked By Loose Dogs, Investigation Underway

The case has been sent to the Riverside County District Attorney for possible charges.

BEAUMONT, CA — The Riverside County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the incident of a Beaumont woman attacked by loose dogs last month, the Beaumont Police Department reported. The extent of the woman's injuries was not immediately disclosed. One dog, reportedly a French Bulldog, died after the incident.

On Feb. 27, Beaumont Police Officers responded to reports of "several small dogs" that were off-leash in a Beaumont neighborhood, where a woman says she was attacked. The department confirmed with Patch that two small dogs were involved in the incident.

"During the incident, the woman’s husband intervened and struck one of the dogs with a gardening tool in an effort to stop the attack, resulting in injuries to the animal," Julie Hook, spokesperson for the department, said.

The Beaumont Police Department was later notified that the dog succumbed to its injuries, she said.

"Officers conducted an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident," Hook said. With no charges immediately filed, the incident has been submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review and consideration of a potential criminal charge.

When asked, the Beaumont Police Department only disclosed the number of dogs involved in the incident. Questions regarding the extent of the woman's injuries, or if the dog was still in the act of attacking the woman at the time of striking the animal with the garden tool, remained unanswered.

"The Beaumont Police Department reminds residents of the importance of responsible pet ownership, including ensuring that animals are properly secured and under control at all times to prevent incidents that could place community members or animals at risk," Hook said.
