Beloved Big Bear Bald Eagles Supporter Sandy Steers Dies
She brought the bald eagle couple, Jackie and Shadow, into the homes and lives of millions through Friends of Big Bear Valley's nest cam.

BIG BEAR, CA — Big Bear bald eagle supporter and executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, Sandy Steers, has died, the organization shared Thursday.
Steers invited the world to watch nature at work through the livestream webcams aimed at the nest of Jackie and Shadow, Southern California's bonded bald eagles. She has guided the watchers through both the heartbreak of a raided nest and both failed and successful pip-watches as baby eaglets hatch from their eggs. Ultimately, Steers shared the joy of watching the life cycle of the birds she loved as they fledged from their nest into the rest of their lives.
Steers was a wildlife naturalist with a background in biology and has long been a spokesperson for the Big Bear bald eagles.
