Blaze Consumes Construction Vehicle On Highway 74 In RivCo

MEADOWBROOK, CA — A fire that erupted in a truck used for construction services consumed the vehicle Thursday on Highway 74 in Meadowbrook, prompting a temporary closure of the corridor.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 3:30 p.m. Thursday on the eastbound 74 between Meadowbrook Avenue and Wasson Canyon Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The agency said the truck caught fire in the eastbound lanes, but the driver was able to pull into the center divider and bail out before the flames reached the cab.

No other vehicles were involved.
Riverside County Fire Department engine crews reached the location a few minutes later and found the vehicle fully engulfed.

Firefighters deployed to prevent the blaze from extending into nearby vegetation, forcing a complete shutdown of the four-lane corridor, according to reports from the scene.
The fire was knocked down by 3:50 p.m.
The CHP reopened westbound lanes at 4 p.m. The eastbound side was expected to be available by 4:30 p.m.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
