Heatwave to Last Through the Weekend, Possible Storm Mid-Next Week

A heatwave will continue through the weekend with a storm system by the middle of next week.

A strong ridge of high pressure has gripped the Southern California area, bringing temperatures up over 95 in many spots of the Inland Empire. Hemet is over 100 degrees, with the Banning Airport coming at 93 degrees.

Saturday will be the warmest day of this three-day heatwave event, known as a short duration heatwave. Temperatures will approach 95 degrees in Banning, with over 102 degrees at Casino Morongo to the Cabazon areas.

Now I did issue a warning of this heat on April 15th with this post via Facebook. Lead-time was more than enough time to get the word out to those who would be affected by it across the entire Southern California area.

The Southern California Weather Authority Heat Advisory remains in effect through the weekend, effectively ending on Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.

In addition to the heatwave, the ridge will break-down on Monday, allowing for more seasonal temperatures to return to the area. A cutoff low is being monitored out in the Pacific, which again was mentioned with the heatwave on April 15's Facebook message.

This cutoff low may actually be a storm aimed at us by mid-week and this is being monitored very carefully.

For reports you won't find anywhere else, stay tuned to the Southern California Weather Authority on the Web or on Facebook for the latest updates in the area.
