Lesson Learned: Never brag about nap time!
Mommyhood Monologues: http://mommyhoodmonologues.blogspot.com/
This past weekend I learned a very valuable lesson. Bragging about my son's amazing nap schedule will lead to no good...errr, no naps! On Saturday night, my family had a BBQ because my cousins are in town from Oregon. Billy showed off the whole day and night. He took his scheduled naps in a guest room in his cosleeper (everyone was in awe) and then went to bed like he was at home in his own crib without a peep! For each nap, I would go into the room, lay him down pat his pack and walk out after I knew he was comfortable (less than 30 seconds). The other newer mama there was beyond impressed and couldn't believe how well Billy slept! I bragged and bragged about my "auh-mazing" kiddo and felt so blessed to have such an amazing sleeper (well at least now...the first 3-4 months were terrible at night, but nap time was always good from 2 months on!). Serves me right for not humbly thanking them and changing conversation because starting two days later, Manic Monday, Billy has been on a mission to avoid all naps and wake up 6 times a night! (Why, oh why...?!? Because mama had to go on and brag, brag, brag!) In the past 3 days, I am guessing he has only slept about 3 hours during the day total and is waking up every 3-4 hours at night, whereas he was pulling off 6-8 previously! At my 4 month appointment, the Dr. told me to stop feeding him in the middle of the night (only after 6 hours at 4 months, 7 hours at 5 months, and 8-9 hours at 6 months) because he didn't actually need it and the more I feed him at night, he will never learn to sleep through. Made since to me and Billy took on the challenge with flying colors. He would wake up the first few days and my husband would go in the nursery, pat his back, and less than 5 minutes later, he would be back to sleep. Sadly though, after I opened my big mouth about his wonderful sleeping habits, all of it went into the Diaper Genie and he apparently forgot how to sleep!
Today may be the day to change it all back to normal, we shall see. I put him down after his morning oatmeal about 9:30am and although he didn't go straight to sleep, he did finally doze off about 20 minutes later. During this time, he was talking, singing, and mumbling to the wall, which was by far one of the cutest, heart-melting things I have seen from him yet!

I guess these past 3 days of no sleep has taught me a very valuable lesson! No bragging about my son?! Maybe, but all us mothers know...that is so never going to happen! Maybe next I should brag about him not being potty trained and how great he is at pooping in his diaper! Then the next thing I will find is him sitting on the toliet! One can dream, right?
