Now you see me, now you don't...

Mommyhood Monologues: http://mommyhoodmonologues.blogspot.com/

Now you see me, now you don't...and the teething game goes on and on. Since about 3 months, Billy has been "teething", although I now understand, "teething" doesn't actually mean his teeth are coming in. Instead it means: uncontrollable drool all the time, gnawing and sucking on fingers all the time, and mommy and daddy getting really excited all the time about seeing "white" and the next moment, nothing but gums.

My poor son is constantly enduring my curiosity that result in "mommy's teeth search". With clean hands (of course), I feel around his gums, bring his lower lip down to check out the progress and have even taught him to open his mouth an say, "AH". Last night I screamed for my husband to come check out the white gums showcasing teeth! And for the first time, daddy actually agreed it did look like teeth. In previous attempts to show him, he told me I was making it up because he saw nothing! And then of course it would follow with, "calm down and just let him be." Apparently, daddies don't get as excited as mommies about all the milestones! (I hate to admit it, but I check the milestone calendar weekly, at least, to check up on Billy's progress and to determine if I have the "advanced" kid from the chart! What mom doesn't want to think her kid is smarter and more developed than every other kid, right? Or am I just crazy? www.babycenter.com has great information available!)

Kidshealth.com stated that although the teething process starts on average around 3 months, those little pearly whites won't actually make an appearance till 4 to 7 months. In that case, Billy is well on his way at 5 months next Wednesday.

With a little help from teething tablets, aka baby's "happy pills", I have found the teething process not too bad. This is said with a grain of salt though considering not one tooth has actually broken through yet. Let's see if/how my opinion changes once a tooth is actually visible on the outside of the gums.
