Brush Fire Near UCR Snarls Traffic On I-215

RIVERSIDE, CA — A brush fire that broke out late Friday morning near UC Riverside at University Avenue and Interstate 215 caused slow traffic on the freeway.

Fire crews from the city of Riverside were battling the three-alarm blaze that was reported shortly after 11 a.m. and was estimated at 1 acre in heavy fuel.

The were no injuries and no structures damaged, City of Riverside Fire Department reported.

According to the California Highway Patrol, all freeway lanes remained open.

Firefighters were expected to remain at the location, mopping up, until about 2 p.m.
