Calimesa Man Kills Himself Amid Police Chase: Sheriff's Dept.
Jovan Jones, 33, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Highway 38 in Mentone, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept.
MENTONE, CA — A Calimesa man killed himself Monday afternoon following an alleged domestic violence incident and a brief police chase, according to authorities.
Jovan Jones, 33, was being sought in Riverside County regarding a domestic violence incident that allegedly occurred earlier that day in Calimesa.
At approximately 1:44 p.m., San Bernardino County deputies spotted Jones' vehicle on Highway 38, near Bryant Street, just north of Yucaipa. Law enforcement was advised that Jones was believed to be armed with a gun.

Deputies tried to pull Jones over, but he failed to stop, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Instead, Jones allegedly led deputies on an approximately 8-mile pursuit along Highway 38 before abruptly pulling onto the roadway's shoulder in Mentone.

Using a loudspeaker system, deputies ordering Jones to exit the vehicle, but he did not respond.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department arrived and deployed a drone to safely assess the situation.
When deputies determined Jones was unresponsive, they approached his vehicle and confirmed he had a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Paramedics arrived and pronounced Jones dead at the scene. His body was transported to the Riverside County coroner’s office, where an autopsy will be completed, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported.
