Calimesa Murder Reported, Alleged Shooter ID'd
Sheriff's officials say a woman's body was found at the scene.

CALIMESA, CA — A man is accused of gunning down a woman in Calimesa over the weekend. Rex Edwards, 61, is being held at the Banning jail on no bail for the Saturday night incident, according to Riverside County jail booking records.
According to sheriff's Sgt. Wallace Clear, the incident was reported around 11:10 p.m. at a mobile home park in the 5000 Block of Chandler Avenue.
"Officers arrived and found an adult female lying on the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds," Clear said in a news release. "Paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased."

Edwards was "immediately" pegged as the gunman, and was detained at the scene, according to Clear. Booking records indicate that he was arrested at 9 a.m. Sunday and booked into jail at 4:42 p.m.
"Based on the circumstances, the Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit and investigators from the Calimesa Police Department responded and assumed the investigation which led to the arrest of Rex Edwards for homicide," Clear said.

The woman's identity was being withheld pending notification of family.
There was no word on the motive for the shooting.
