Car Smashes Power Pole, Trapped Occupants Freed By Jaws Of Life

Firefighters rushed to the scene where a driver struck a power pole, crumpling an SUV.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — Gilman Springs Road was closed to through traffic after an SUV collided with a power pole Wednesday in Moreno Valley.

Shortly after noon, Cal Fire firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle that had struck a light pole at the 14900 block of Gilman Springs and Big Nash Roads.

Upon arrival, firefighters found instead a power pole that had been sheared at ground level. It collapsed onto the front of the vehicle, where two occupants were trapped.

"Both patients were extricated and one was transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries, and one signed an AMA, declining medical attention," a Cal Fire spokesperson said.

No information on what led to the crash was immediately available.
