TONIGHT: 'Support Beaumont Police Walk' Happening at 7 PM

BEAUMONT, CA – Beaumont residents are encouraged to join dozens of fellow community members as they walk to support local police officers.

The event is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, outside the Beaumont Police station at 660 Orange Avenue.

"I want to make sure that police know and feel the support from the community they serve," said local community activist Gabe Ewing of Mind Your Own Beaumont. "This is a 'walk' not a 'march,' or 'protest.' This is way to display our appreciation for our officers who serve and protect ALL the lives in our community each and every day."

Ewing tells Patch that he is helping to get citizens together along with Bruce Murrill of Interact.

"I decided this was something I needed to do because of the lack of respect for law enforcement," Murrill said.

"There are people around the country frustrated by this. This is my way of doing something, though small. I am very happy with the large response in the Pass coming out Saturday evening. This is not a parade with street closures.

"It is a bunch of good people doing a positive; caring activity. No blathering politicians, just our community showing our support."

Participants will walk east from the police station along Sixth Street, to Highland Springs, and south to the San Gorgonio CHP office.

Police tell Patch they are grateful for the support.

"We are very appreciative of the great show of support we have received from the residents of the community as a whole," Chief Sean Thuilliez says. "It is both a privilege and honor to serve in the City of Beaumont."
