Crews Rescue Horses Stuck in Mud
The horses mired in the sandy river bottom but were otherwise uninjured.

Firefighters and Norco Animal Rescue Team members were summoned Wednesday afternoon to free two horses that became stuck in wet sand at the Santa Ana river bottom.

The rescuers were called at 2:26 p.m. to the area south of Limonite Avenue, between Marlatt and Dodd streets, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
The horses were mired in the sand, but otherwise uninjured, she said.

Both animals were rescued safely and transported by trailer back to their stables.
