Deadly Home Explosion Remains Under Investigation In Twentynine Palms

TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA — The cause of a weekend blast that engulfed a Twentynine Palms home in flames, killing a woman and injuring two men, remained under investigation Monday.

The explosion was reported just before 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of Ocotillo Avenue.

When San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies arrived, they found a home "fully engulfed in flames," the agency reported.

Bystanders rescued two men, ages 72 and 41, from the home before deputies arrived. Both were transported to nearby hospitals with burns.

A 46-year-old woman was unable to escape the inferno and died at the scene, according to the sheriff's department. The county coroner's office has not yet released her identity.

The sheriff's Arson/Bomb Detail assumed control of the ongoing investigation. Authorities offered no update Monday on what caused the blast.
