Deadly Milk Truck Crash Reported On Gilman Springs Road

The CHP says the truck was leaving a local dairy when another driver slammed into it.

MORENO VALLEY, CA — A 56-year-old motorist was killed Thursday when he crashed an SUV into the side of a dairy truck on the east end of Moreno Valley, the California Highway Patrol reports. It happened about 4:30 a.m. in the 34000 block of Gilman Springs Road, near Jack Rabbit Trail, in the area of Mystic Lake.

According to CHP Officer Darren Meyer, a Yucaipa man was driving a semi-truck with a tanker "fully loaded" with milk out of a local dairy's driveway, making a left turn onto Gilman Springs Road.

Meanwhile, Carlos Fuentes Segura was at the wheel of a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder going east on Gilman Springs when he approached the dairy plant, according to Meyer and coroner's reports.

"The truck driver failed to yield to the approaching Nissan," Meyer said. "The Nissan collided with the center of the tank trailer, continued underneath and out the opposite side."

Segura was killed instantly, according to Meyer.

The Yucaipa man was not hurt. He was interviewed, cited and released, Meyer said.

Gilman Springs was shut down for about four hours while the CHP conducted an investigation.

Meyer said alcohol or drugs have not been ruled out as possible contributing factors in the collision.
