CALIFORNIA — An earthquake rocked the San Gorgonio Pass area Saturday, the United States Geological Survey, or USGS, said.

According to the USGS, the 3.3 magnitude quake shook the area 7 km north of Banning at about 4:37 p.m.

Earthquakes that register a 3.3 magnitude generally cause tremors but are not usually the cause of major damage, officials have said.

The San Gorgonio Pass isa narrow east-west strip of land between the San Bernardino Valley to the west and the Palm Springs/Coachella Valley area to the east, according to the San Gorgonio Pass Water Agency.
