After four and a half years, of providing programs, arts and crafts to thousands of Pass area youth the Youth Arts Council (YAC) will end with this month. YAC held their first meeting in January of 2009, quickly becoming very active members of the Pass area community. Since forming, YAC has planned or planned for and participated in numerous events through out the Pass area.
The youth will get together for one last big celebration on June 16th from 5 to 10:30pm. “We will celebrate the good times that we have had and the council wanted to do right after school gets out, to also kick off their summer vacation,” said Watson.“”We would love to see any of the youth that have shared our experiences over the years come back for this “last Hurrah,”” she added. The Youth Arts council that is planning and hosting the event, dubbed it “a Tim Burton Extravaganza.” “Some of the teens will be dressing in costumes from Burton movies,” said Watson.
We will have a sit down dinner and two bands London Overdrive and Kid Gramophone along with DJ INO have volunteered their time to perform for the kids at the event, she continued. A part of the Banning Cultural Alliance the Youth Arts Council has been canceled due to a lack of funding. The Youth Arts Council is a team of youths ages 13 to 19, that have helped coordinate and plan not only their own events and programs but those of others. YAC members attend numerous events each year providing fun things to share and do with other youth and families. Reservations for the dinner is suggested as seating is limited.
