1 Killed In Street Sweeper Vs. Truck Crash Near Winchester

Early Thursday, lanes were closed following a fatal crash on Domenigoni Parkway. Here's what happened.

WINCHESTER, CA — A crash between a truck and a street sweeper in Winchester has led to a lengthy road closure on Domenigoni Parkway on Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 6 a.m., a red Toyota Tacoma truck and a street sweeper collided in the area of Westbound Domenigoni Parkway and Prairie Loop, the California Highway Patrol dispatch operators reported.

"One victim was trapped, and they perished at the scene," Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson Tawny Castro. "The second victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, suffering moderate injuries." The Riverside County Coroner's office was called to the scene shortly after 7 a.m., and the incident was handed over to both CHP and Menifee Police Officers.

Officials have blocked lanes "enough to squeeze traffic through, and turn people around" as towing companies arrived to remove the 33,000-pound street sweeper with a broken right-rear axle. The truck was missing its roof and had suffered major damage, and it also needed to be removed from the scene, according to dispatch operators.

By 8:45 a.m., the CHP shared that lanes remained closed on the right-hand side of the roadway. No other information was immediately available.
