Fiery Wreck Found After Wheelchair-Bound Woman Hit by Car: Police

Police are now searching for the hit-and-run driver responsible for the San Jacinto collision.

San Jacinto, CA– A woman remained hospitalized in critical condition Thursday, two days after she was hit by a driver in San Jacinto who fled the scene, police tell Patch.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Himmelberg, the woman– who was in a wheelchair– was in the area of State Street and Crows Nest Place when she was struck around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.

"The initial investigation indicated a pedestrian in a wheel chair was struck by a passenger car traveling north on State Street," the sergeant said in a news release.

The driver of the car did not stop to help the woman, and took off, he said. That vehicle was then found just a few miles away– unoccupied and engulfed in flames.

As of Thursday afternoon, the driver remained at large. Police are asking for anyone who may have information as to who the person is call 951.487.7352.
