San Bernardino Wildfire: 3 Hurt, I-215 Reopen

Evacuations and highway closure requested by county fire department due to the rapidly spreading blaze.

UPDATE 10 P.M. — The Little Mountain Fire grew to 100 acres in size and is 0 percent contained. Three people have been hurt in the blaze. Fire victims received some good news Tuesday evening when evacuation orders were lifted. However, the area remained closed to traffic.

Areas that faced evacuations included:

  • Valley Court
  • Big Canyon
  • Shandin Circle
  • Circle Road and all streets that are off of Circle Road.
  • 1200 block of Edgemont
  • 3200 block of Miramonte
  • 3200 block of Grande Vista
  • 1300 block of Marshall

UPDATE 3:35 P.M. — Caltrans reports several closures in the area. They are as follows:

  • Interstate 215 is closed headed northbound at SR-210.
  • The southbound I-15 is closed at the I-15 / 215 interchange.
  • The eastbound 210 to north 215 connector is closed.
  • West 210 to north 215 connector is closed.
  • North I-15 to south 215 connector is closed

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, CA –A wind-driven fire that erupted Tuesday afternoon off the 215 Freeway near University Parkway in San Bernardino is threatening businesses, structures and prompting a possible freeway closure and evacuations. The fire, which has already injured at least three people, was first reported around 11:30 a.m. and was spreading quickly.

The San Bernardino County Fire Department requested a closure of northbound I-215 near University, along with evacuations of a neighborhood north of Shandin Hills Golf Club. Evacuations are as follows:

  • All homes on Bond Street
  • Marshall Street from Blair Park east to Miramonte
  • Residences east of Little Mountain Dr and north of W Edgehill Road

An evacuation center was set up at Marshall Elementary: 3288 G Street in San Bernardino.

The northbound University Parkway exit was closed as of approximately 1:30 p.m., along with a 1.4-mile stretch of Little Mountain Drive between 33rd Street and Kendall Drive, the department said.

What's more, students and staff at Shandin Hills Middle School have been evacuated to Holcomb Elementary School, police and school officials reported at 2:20 p.m.

"Sudents who walk home south on Little Mtn. Dr. will not be dismissed until they are picked up at Holcomb Elementary School by a parent or guardian," the San Bernardino County Unified School District said on Twitter.

The acres scorched totaled 25 acres, and the blaze is spreading at a rapid rate of spread with 30-mph to 35- mph Santa Ana winds, the agency said.
