Firefighters Quell Banning Blaze Overnight, Save Structure

One building was in jeopardy from a half-acre fire that erupted in an open field in Banning Tuesday evening.

BANNING, CA — A half acre of brush burned Tuesday night, threatening a Banning home, a Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokesperson said.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., a fire broke out in the area of George Street and Cherry Street in Banning. Upon arrival, firefighters say about a quarter-acre was ablaze in "light, flashy brush" and threatened a nearby home.

Five engines responded, along with a battalion chief, according to spokesperson Karina Espinoza.

The fire was held to half an acre, and the structure in danger remained protected from damage. No evacuations were ordered during the firefight.
