Fires Damage 2 Homes In Redlands, Occupants Escape Without Injury

In total, just under $1 million in damages were reported.

REDLANDS, CA — Two noninjury house fires caused significant damage this past weekend in Redlands, and despite both burning within a few hours of each other, there was no immediate indication the blazes were related.

The first fire was reported at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in a single-story, single-family home in the 1100 block of Webster Street.

When fire crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the home's interior, according to city spokesperson Carl Baker.

All residents escaped injury and the fire was rapidly quickly knocked down and confined to a bedroom, according to Baker.

"There was smoke damage to the entire house. Damage was estimated at $150,000," Baker said.

The Red Cross assisted one of the tenants with temporary housing; no other displacements were announced.

The second fire was reported just before 11 p.m. Sunday in the 30500 block of Palo Alto Drive.

When crews arrived, they found heavy fire burning through the roof of the two-story, single-family home, according to Baker.

The home’s smoke detectors had activated, allowing the family to escape before firefighters arrived, Baker explained.

Due to the amount of fire, crews from San Bernardino County and the Loma Linda Fire Department also responded to the scene, Baker said.

The blaze caused about $750,000 in damage.

In both fires, firefighters took extra effort to limit damage to homeowners' belongings, Baker said.

The causes of the fires remain under investigation.
