BANNING, CA — People celebrating Independence Day can take a reimbursed cab or Lyft ride throughout parts of the Pass Area thanks to the Walter Clark Legal Group, which is trying to prevent crashes by impaired drivers.

The firm's Safe Ride Home Program will run from 10 p.m. July 4 through 3 a.m. the following day in the Banning area. Other areas include the Coachella Valley, Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Victorville and even El Centro.

"I have and just about everybody I know has at some time driven when they shouldn't, and the reason that happens is that after you have a drink, you think you're fine. That's the effect of impairment," Walter Clark, founder of the law firm, said in a statement.

For over a decade, Walter Clark Legal Group has paid for rides home to keep drivers like these off the road during busy holidays, when accident rates increase.
